Abstract

One of the efforts to reduce the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is to control the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquito vectors. The suitable water quality of breeding place can affect the vector breeding. The pH level is one of the chemical parameters contained in the water of breeding place. This research was conducted using the quantitative analytical method with the case-control approach. The case group was the breeding place in endemic areas and the control group in non-endemic areas. The sample size of each group was 41 containers. The data obtained were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test to find out the correlation of pH level with the larva and Mann-Whitney test to analyze the difference in pH level in endemic and non-endemic areas. It found that most pH levels in endemic areas were normal or at intervals of pH 6-7.8 (63.4%), whereas in non-endemic areas most had pH <6 or > 7.8 (87.8%). The presence of larvae was found to be highest in endemic areas (68.3%), whereas in non-endemic areas it was only 40%. The result of the statistical analysis showed that the correlation value in the endemic region was 0.462, and in the non-endemic area was 0.478. The p-value for differences in pH levels in endemic and non-endemic areas is 0.000. There was a significant association between pH levels and larvae in endemic and non-endemic areas with moderate strength. Also, there was a significant difference between pH levels in endemic and non-endemic areas.
