Abstract

The parang motif is a classical batik motif that has been a product of Javanese culture for centuries. In the past, this motif was classed as “batik larangan”, which meant it was only allowed to be worn by Javanese kings. The parang motif is a geometric pattern, an abstraction of rows of large knives (parang) arranged with great accuracy at an angle of 45 degrees. In modern aesthetics, it is regarded as a traditional work with potential as an optical art that can conjure up an illusory image. The specifications of its illusive nuance will emerge when it is used as clothing, creating a taller, slimmer, dynamic, and elegant appearance.
