Abstract

School age is a critical period because at this time children begin to develop the habit of maintaining oral hygiene. The purpose of this study was to prove the relationship between self-efficacy and family support for toothbrushing practice of elementary school students. The population in this study was fifth grade students of primary schools. Measuring instruments used were the Self-Efficiency Scale, the Family Social Support Scale and the Teeth Brushing Scale. Data analysis showed that the double correlation coefficient between self-efficacy and family social support with tooth brushing was R = 0.837 with a significance level of 0,000 (p <0.01). Self-efficacy and family social support have a very significant relationship with the toothbrushing practice. The higher the self-efficacy and the higher the family's social support, the better the toothbrushing practice.
