Abstract
The social culture of the community and the carefulness in utilizing the natural potential possessed contribute to the success of radicalism prevention strategies. This article tries to answer questions about the factors that shape radicalism in Indonesia, the psychosocial perspective of radicalism in Indonesia, and the prevention of community-based radicalism. The study was conducted based on the conditions of the Indonesian people. The research design was qualitative descriptive using a phenomenological approach. The results of this study show that radicalism arises from a combination of individual internal conditions that are reinforced by external conditions. External conditions can create a diverse self-defence mechanism. Individual reactions to unfavourable external conditions create frustration that results in aggression. Prevention of community-based radicalism offers an alternative solution by utilizing the socio-cultural conditions of Indonesian people starting from the family environment, educational institutions and communities.
